THE MURAL

A Meeting of Minds

(121' X 30') covers the West wall of The Mercado La Paloma,

which was covered by a graffiti of fraternity insignia.

A Meeting of Minds pictures an outdoor marketplace.   A banner, held aloft by doves Reads "Mercado La Paloma".   Tall columns draw the viewer into the Mercado.   The columns are flanked with vendors selling fruit, food, flowers and the like; musicians play and weavers weave on wooden looms.   In the foreground people are gathered; talking, cooking, eating, enjoying music and watching artisans at work.

Pictured in the crowd are persons important to our community, mingling with great figures from the past millennium: e.g. Albert Schweitzer, Albert  Einstein,  Leonardo da Vinci, Rosa Parks,  Eleanor Roosevelt,  Aldous Huxley,  George Bernard Shaw,  Mahatma Gandhi, Charles Darwin, Nelson Mandela,  Martin Luther King Jr.,  Cesar Chavez,  Ann Frank, Lucille Royball Allard,  Rita Walters, Charles Darwin,  Sister Diane Donoghue and Bruce Saito as well as many Health Promoters,  Vista Volunteers,  children and adults who are participating  and contributing toward making this, our community a welcoming, thriving, diverse and artistic place.

The mural pictures the flow of ideas (represented by these figures) from the last millennium through to the present and into the Future.

From Leonardo da Vinci to Sister Elizabeth,  (a ninety year old Sister of Social Service who is still working with children at St. Vincent's School)  to the young artists and babies in our community who are continuing to advance the philosophical ideals that create and foster a healthy, diverse, peaceful and beautiful community into the next millennium.
